Neuropathy No More By JODI KNAPP Neuropathy No More is an eBook which is a compilation of all the essential information and details about the nervous system and how to keep it active and healthy. With the help of this program, one can get a relief from the symptoms of neuropathy. This eBook not only tells you about the nervous system, but also helps to provide essential information to get relief from the condition of neuropathy. It also provides information about how you can prevent this condition from coming back in the near future.

What is large fiber neuropathy?

Large fiber neuropathy is a type of peripheral nerve disorder that primarily affects the large myelinated nerve fibers. These large fibers are responsible for:

Touch sensation (discriminative touch)

Vibration sense

Proprioception (sense of body position and movement)

Motor control (muscle strength and reflexes)

Key Features of Large Fiber Neuropathy
Symptoms:
Numbness or decreased sensation to vibration and position sense, especially in the feet and hands

Impaired balance and coordination due to loss of proprioception

Muscle weakness or atrophy in severe cases

Reduced or absent deep tendon reflexes (like the ankle reflex)

Often affects both sensory and motor nerves

Causes:
Diabetes mellitus (most common cause)

Vitamin B12 deficiency

Autoimmune diseases (e.g., Guillain-Barré syndrome, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy)

Toxins (e.g., chemotherapy drugs, alcohol)

Inherited neuropathies (e.g., Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease)

Chronic kidney disease

Diagnosis:
Clinical exam showing loss of vibration and position sense

Nerve conduction studies (NCS) show slowed conduction velocity or decreased amplitude in large fibers

Electromyography (EMG) may show motor nerve involvement

Difference from Small Fiber Neuropathy:
Feature Large Fiber Neuropathy Small Fiber Neuropathy
Affected fibers Large myelinated fibers Small unmyelinated/thin myelinated fibers
Symptoms Numbness, loss of vibration, proprioception, muscle weakness Burning pain, temperature sensitivity, autonomic symptoms
Reflexes Decreased or absent Usually normal
Nerve conduction studies Abnormal Usually normal

Focal neuropathy is a type of nerve damage that affects a single nerve or a specific group of nerves, causing symptoms localized to one area of the body. Unlike generalized neuropathy, which impacts many nerves symmetrically, focal neuropathy is asymmetric and limited to one nerve distribution.

Key Features of Focal Neuropathy:
Sudden onset of symptoms.

Involves one nerve or nerve bundle.

Causes localized pain, numbness, weakness, or muscle paralysis.

Often occurs due to compression, injury, inflammation, or diabetes.

Common Examples:
Type Description
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Compression of median nerve at the wrist, causing numbness and weakness in the hand.
Radial Neuropathy Wrist drop caused by radial nerve injury or compression.
Third Cranial Nerve Palsy Affects eye movement causing drooping eyelid and double vision.
Peroneal Neuropathy Foot drop due to compression near the knee.
Femoral Neuropathy Weakness and numbness in the thigh.

Causes:
Diabetes (common cause, especially diabetic focal neuropathy).

Nerve compression (e.g., repetitive motion, trauma).

Infections (e.g., shingles).

Tumors or cysts pressing on nerves.

Inflammatory diseases.

Symptoms:
Localized pain, tingling, or numbness.

Muscle weakness in the affected nerve’s area.

Sometimes muscle wasting if prolonged.

Diagnosis:
Physical and neurological examination.

Nerve conduction studies and electromyography (EMG).

Imaging if a mass or structural lesion is suspected.

Blood tests to identify underlying causes like diabetes.

Treatment:
Address underlying cause (e.g., control diabetes, relieve compression).

Pain management.

Physical therapy.

Surgery if nerve compression is severe or persistent.

Most cases improve over weeks to months.
